Saturday 18th October saw the climax of the European Flat Racing Season and what better place for it than Ascot Racecourse. As the curtain closer to the season, it is the richest raceday on the British calendar and is therefore a wonderful opportunity to see some of the finest jockeys and horses go head-to-head to make their own piece of history.
The meeting also serves as the culmination of the QIPCO British Champions Series, so racegoers were treated to end-of-season championship races over a number of distances.
The first race of the day saw Forgotten Rules ridden by Pat Smullen take the QIPCO British Champions Long Distance Cup over two miles. The six furlong QIPCO British Champions Sprint Stakes was won by W.M. Lordan on Gordon Lord Byron and the QIPCO British Champions Fillies’ and Mares’ Stakes was a victory for Jim Crowley aboard Madame Chiang.
